The finale: Technorati

Wow. Technorati. who comes up with these names? Just because it is not a real word and is hard to spell does not make it cool. Anyway i 'headed off' to Tech-nor-ati to have a squiz. I looked up Bookmobile - with great anticipation i must add - and found results on Map reading, King County library system and Trifecta! whatever that is. All very relevant i feel. Then i took a life-changing step and tried (gasp) the advanced search feature. The results i must inform you, in my gravest tone, were no different. Librarything however was cool. Anyway. This is my final blog. i would say it is a sad day...but i wont. finis.

Tag my folksonomy

Folksonomies, conjures up an image of two very bad things - Folk music and something else which i can't quite put my finger on...something related to folk music, therefore, very bad. Anyway, i know nothing about folksonomies and after reading the information on license to test drive, i am still somewhat convinced it has to do with folk music. Del.icio.us was interesting, the website was so cute and i love the url because its so clever. Maybe ted.io.us would be another good URL. This is definitely one form of web technology which would benefit a library. The fact that all the desired information is crammed onto one site would be very handy. It appears libraries are using this site to collect websites that could supply information on other libraries and sites that could supply information that would benefit customers. Real Simple Syndication

Well i got an account on blog lines - riveting really. Then i subscribe to 5 other blogs. None of them really worth mentioning except the blog on brisbane bands - which i was denied! However my pursuit for a blog WORTH reading continued. I found one which was reasonably interesting - about art news. What do i like about RSS feeders? not much. At work i highly doubt i could use this without looking like i was sitting down surfing the internet. just my opinion though. It is 4:43 and i am just about to go home. i suggest you do the same.

social networking with my library?

Social networking. What a great way to be exposed to thousands of people you'd never want to meet. Social networking could possibly work for libraries if they were comparing notes on how they do certain things to save time etc. But other than that i think we may - just may - be able to live without it. I had a look at The National Library of New Zealand and how they are using twitter..I don't really know if it's all that necessary. If they are trying to appeal to a younger generation (as one of them) i can safely say that if i did use twitter, i probably wouldn't be all too interested in being chummy with my local library. I think social networking should be used as a purely social thing. not exploited by businesses etc. I think libraries do an amazing job sans twitter. However the UQ catalogue via facebook, i must admit, is clever. I dare say i'm not going to go and have an adventure by signing up to a social networking site - as i already am a member of several and the passwords are just too hard to remember these days.
